Our week as vegetarians!

Over Spring break, I was bored Thursday afternoon and decided to check out a documentary on Netflix.  I watched half of a food documentary on myths about vitamins, processed foods, etc.  I forgot the title.  Interesting, but not that engaging.  I looked for another one and landed on Vegucate. Wow...interesting, startling, moving enough I decided to try it out...being a vegetarian that is!  Bailey was game too.  In fact he challenged me to see who would fall first!  Now, I knew going vegan was a bit too much for us...no dairy, eggs or fish, so vegetarian was a bit more realistic.  Let me start by saying, we already eat meat free two-three dinners a week anyway, so,this shouldn't be that difficult. And it wasn't really... John was game too.  By default the other kids were vegetarians this week too, although I think Jonas had a turkey sandwich for lunch Monday.   The meals were a complete success.  John said I hit it out of the park with the new recipes!   Tuna pot pie

Cibolo Nature Center

What a neat little place!  I can't even remember who or where I heard about it (thanks to social media overload!) but thank you to the person who wrote about!  We can't wait to go back.  It's located right in Boerne, Texas behind the city recreational park and playing fields. We had a quick picnic of some Subway, then enjoyed the trails and Cibolo Creek.  It was a great ending to a simple, at home, spring break.

Accomplishments...

... look different to different people.  They come in all shapes and sizes.  To some, accomplishments mean a raise or job promotion, to others, it's quitting smoking or running a mile in a certain time.  To a new mom, it may be actually getting a shower before noon!  I remember those days all too well. Around the Boyen house, there have been many accomplishments, both big and small! Bailey's track meet. Losing another tooth! Making a meal that NO ONE complained about, and EVERYONE loved!  Now that's an accomplishment! The Thursday before spring break, was a way over-scheduled day.  Savannah had a doctor's appointment at 2:30, Bailey and Savannah had a concert at 6:00, while Jonas, Lorelei and I had Open House at 6:30.  Thankfully, I have awesome administration, who always put family first.  I was able to see Bailey perform at the concert, and to see Savannah perform 2 out of 3 of her pieces, before sneaking out and head

February sucked...and other observations.

I began writing this post 3 weeks ago.  The conversation below took place on Saturday, February 15th, my Dad's 66th birthday. Lorelei:  So mommy, about Busia. Me: Yes... Lorelei:  A sick, can make you so sick, that you can die? Me: Yes and old age too. Lorelei: Yea...Busia was 92. Me:  Yes, she was. Lorelei:  I'm glad Nana's not 92. Sunday February 9th began a bit differently than most of my Sundays.  I received a phone call from my dad around 9:00 a.m. letting me know that my Grandma, whom we've fondly referred to as Busia since she became a great grandma, had passed away after a 3 week struggle in hospice.  The rest of the morning was a blur of phone calls, booking plane tickets, making hard decisions, and emotions.  At first, honestly, I didn't want to go to Detroit to attend her funeral.  I'd already missed a lot of work this year with my hysterectomy, I'd have to make sub plans, find my favorite subs and most difficult of all...leave my child
